South Africa’s carbon-offset system has its own project approval, credit listing, ownership transfer and retirement processes. A credit’s issuance under Verra is one part of the evidence; suitability for a buyer’s carbon-tax use also depends on the applicable regulations and administrative requirements.
Tell us the intended use and tax period when you enquire. We will provide the relevant project and credit documentation so it can be assessed against your requirements. Any buyer-specific tax position should be checked with the buyer’s adviser.
VCS 3659 is an approved project under South Africa's Carbon Offsets Regulations. The Department of Electricity and Energy issued its Extended Letter of Approval on 14 January 2026, covering the crediting period from 10 November 2021 to 9 November 2028 (COAS project ID P-ZA-VCS-3659-4076). To use these credits against carbon tax, they must be retired with the cancellation wording the regulations require and listed in the Carbon Offset Administration System. Project approval does not guarantee that a listing application will succeed. We provide the project documents a listing application needs.
